Newsletter #2: Making splatter
In which we get our first look behind the curtain of Professor Morris' Pageant of Curiosities from J.M. Brandt and Tom Napolitano's sordid, splatter-y tale.
Hello and welcome to our second newsletter! First, let me just say thank you for subscribing, and for following us on Twitter and/or Instagram. The initial support we’ve been getting has been immense and we’re grateful for each and every one of you.
In the last newsletter we talked about our upcoming splatter western creative teams but we hadn’t quite locked down our final slot. I’m happy to announce that is no longer the case and we can share that Michelle Garza (Pandemonium Arizona (Journalstone)) and Daniel Franco (Jugular) are going to make a splatterrific western with us! We still don’t have any dates yet, but as production on the books come to a close, we’ll start nailing down a timeline of when the comics will be hitting your local comic shops.
I took Michelle’s latest book to the beach a few weeks back and posted the below pic to our Twitter. It’s definitely NOT for the squeamish. Grab a copy here.
Who are the other creative teams again?! Glad you asked!
We have Scott Bryan Wilson, ( TRVE KVLT (IDW), Pennyworth, (DC)) and Robert Gaughran (Producing The End Of The World (KS)), R.K. Latch (Phantom In The Pines (BMP)) and Mike Fiorentino (R.L. Stine’s Just Beyond (BOOM!)), J.M. Brandt (Swamp Dogs (Black Caravan/Scout)) and Tom Napolitano (GRIM (BOOM!), We Have Demons (Dark Horse)). All with covers by Garry Brown (co-creator/Artist on Black Road (Image) Artist on Daredevil, Batman).
Scott has his creator-owned comic TRVE KVLT, a satanic fast food caper, coming out through IDW next month. You can check out a preview of it here.
J.M. Brandt and Tom Napolitano have been blasting away at their splatter western one-shot. They’ve shared a few sneak peeks on Twitter as well as some of the works that inspired the idea. You can check out the artwork below…
The above is but a small background element. Tom is pulling out all the stops and really giving us a lush book, full of texture and nuance. Down below is a hand you might be happy to have, if you weren’t a character in a story reminiscent of pre-code horror comics…
And here, that look behind the curtain we mentioned, at Lucille…The Spider-Woman!
Lovely Lucille is but one of the many attractions at Professor Morris' Pageant of Curiosities. Step right up and have a look, but don’t get caught in her webs!
Stygian Sky Media released Heavy Metro, a massive tome of Gene Ambo’s legendary photography, featuring over 140 bands and over 350 pages. Death’s Head Press has a pre-order up for the Somewhere South of Hell chapbook bundle by the one and only Ronald Kelly. Our editor Shawn Macomber has a new interview at Rue Morgue with “GATLOPP” Writer/Star Jim Mahoney here.
We also got some sweet stickers and pins, but we’re not going to be having these readily available just yet. We’re putting together some other merch and when it all comes together, we’ll let you know.
Stay tuned to our socials, the new blog, and we’ll see you back here next time.
